Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Corona Soldier

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the death of
Staff Sgt. Michael David P. Cardenaz of Corona, CA:

“With deep sadness, Maria and I join all Californians in honoring Staff Sergeant Michael David Cardenaz’s service and dedication to our country. He was a courageous soldier whose bravery will not be forgotten. We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends and fellow soldiers.”

Cardenaz, 29, died February 20 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with rocket-propelled grenades. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, Fort Carson, CO.

In honor of Staff Sgt. Cardenaz, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff

MICHAEL It was an honor to have known the kind of man you were before the Lord decided to take you from your wife, daughters, and family. You will always hold a special spot in my heart and I will always & forever be thankful for everything you did to protect our country so that we can have a better life. My heart goes out to my dear friend Sandra who lost her brother, and my condolescences go out to her family. I'll be praying for your family Sandra and I hope that in time you and your loved ones will get through this very hard time.
